Project Overview and Key Design Considerations
Voltas, the market leader in India’s air conditioning sector and a cornerstone of the Tata Group, established this major expansion at its Waghodia campus to bolster domestic production. Spanning a development area of 20 acres within an existing 32-acre land parcel, the project involved the creation of a high-capacity manufacturing plant with a built-up area of 30,000 sqm.
The architectural and structural design was engineered to support a modern assembly-line layout, transitioning from component fabrication to final product testing. A key design priority was the creation of a high-efficiency flow for bulky raw materials and finished goods.
The facility features massive clear-span PEB (Pre-Engineered Building) structures to accommodate long assembly lines for indoor and outdoor units, heat exchanger coil manufacturing, and plastic injection molding sections.

VMS Scope and Project Outcomes
VMS provided a comprehensive multidisciplinary engineering package for this greenfield expansion. Our scope included Architectural and Structural design, along with full MEPF services. We engineered the electrical infrastructure to handle the high surge loads of heavy presses and testing labs, ensuring localized power stability.
Our Fire Protection and Alarm system design met both national standards and the strict safety protocols of the Tata Group. This plant plays a critical role in Voltas’s “Make in India” strategy, significantly reducing dependency on imports for critical AC components.
