Project Overview and Key Design Considerations
As a key division of the Canadian global giant Magna International, the Cosma International facility in Sanand was engineered to manufacture complex structural automotive components. The design focuses on accommodating heavy-duty metal stamping, hydroforming, and robotic welding lines used to produce chassis systems and body-in-white (BIW) solutions.
Given the scale of the machinery, the architectural priority was to create a high-bay industrial environment with massive clear spans that could accommodate the movement of large automotive frames and heavy dies.
The facility was designed to support a high-volume, lean manufacturing workflow, ensuring that Cosma can deliver high-strength structural parts to its global OEM partners.

VMS Scope and Project Outcomes
VMS delivered a full multidisciplinary engineering package, including Architectural, Structural, and MEPF design. Our structural team handled the complex task of designing deep foundations for heavy presses and vibration-sensitive assembly areas. We also engineered specialized industrial utilities, including high-capacity electrical grids, compressed air networks, and industrial cooling systems required for welding and metal forming operations.
The successful completion of this plant has allowed Magna to strengthen its footprint in the Indian automotive market, providing localized engineering and manufacturing excellence to major automobile manufacturers.
