Project Overview and Key Design Considerations

Terex Corporation, a US-based Fortune 500 conglomerate and global heavyweight in lifting and material processing solutions, has expanded its manufacturing footprint to Western India. Building upon its heavy mining equipment facility in Hosur, Tamil Nadu, Terex acquired a 75,625 sq. mt. land parcel in the Sanand GIDC hub. This facility is specifically engineered to localize the production of its globally recognized GENIE brand of mobile electric and hydraulic scissor lifts, strengthening both domestic supply and global export capabilities.

The architectural layout and structural engineering of the facility are designed around light-to-medium heavy engineering workflows. The plant incorporates heavy fabrication yards, automated welding bays, robotic powder-coating tunnels, and multiple continuous assembly lines. A key design constraint was accommodating the highly specialized testing tracks required to test the stabilization and vertical calibration of scissor lifts under extreme loads.

VMS Scope and Project Outcomes

VMS served as the Design Consultants for this project. Our integrated scope covered Master Planning, Architectural, Structural, and MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing) design disciplines. Because the site is designed to scale across three distinct execution phases, our master planning focused on establishing a centralized utility core capable of seamlessly feeding future manufacturing extensions without disrupting current production schedules.

Our MEP engineers developed a high-performance electrical grid to feed automated assembly lines and specialized battery-charging banks for electric scissor lifts. Additionally, we designed optimized industrial ventilation and daylight-harvesting infrastructure to maintain a safe, climate-conscious workshop environment matching Terex’s global corporate sustainability goals.
