    Redesign and construction of the Eden Gardens, an iconic and historical stadium. VMS assisted the client with a fast paced construction program to beat the World Cup hosting deadline. The spectacular curved roof unifies the facility developed in bits & pieces over decades. The stadium rebuild consisted of dismantling half of the existing stadium to be reconstructed with new facilities. The new Eden Garden is compliant for first class international cricket under the ICC rules.

    The proposal submitted by VMS won the Design Competition. VMS designed this 60,000 capacity stadium with a view to paying tribute to the rich regional context. Strong cost controls were implemented to prevent cost overruns typical in such projects. The design is inclusive, serving all stakeholders - spectators, players, media and administration - equally. The stadium conforms and exceeds best practices and ICC requirements.

    The International K-12 school is a part of the reputed Godrej Group’s township project. Developing on the initial design, VMS integrated structures and MEP services. VMS also prepared specifications and cost estimate and later issued construction drawings.

    Design of a school building for hearing and speech impaired children. The building has an outpatient department (OPD), classrooms and vocational training areas. Client procured the land after a lot of efforts, hence the need was to maximize the construction while maintaining an institutional character of the building. Spaces are designed to respond to the psychology of such children. Special need based solutions are provided for visual relation to the surroundings and to instill the feeling of security. A major challenge that was to be overcomed through design is the extreme was the linearity of the plot with a narrow road frontage

    Structural design for the New Campus of the prestigious IIM, Ahmedabad. The campus spread across 39 acres comprises of several buildings including the International Management Center, Academic Blocks, Incubation Center, Dorms, Sports facilities, etc. Involved right from the conceptual stage, VMS helped devise structural systems to suit the exposed RCC concept. Having tackled this challenge early on allowed Lead Designer freedom of expression. The Project uses large murals in mild steel, which at many places serve as load bearing trusses. This is a definitive example of VMS's active and successful collaboration with other team members.

    Master Planning and Design of 8 New blocks to expand the mechanical engineering, production engineering and computer engineering departments. The new buildings include classrooms and workshop areas. Workshops are designed with large column free 18m spans to accommodate the equipment. Design of all buildings adhere to GRIHA guidelines with a minimum of 3 star rating. The design of Laboratory buildings enables a hands-on experience. The facilities are carefully designed to be accessible to the physically challenged. All buildings are planned for possible vertical expansions in the future.

    Design of Laboratory Building funded under the 12th National Plan. This premier institute supports long range Plasma Physics research in India. The lab building has four different labs spread over 3 double height levels and a common 21m high-bay area with a crane. The building accommodates complex utilities and services. Substantial construction time on this fast track project was saved by implementing a pre-fabricated steel and concrete composite design. The new age material creates a modern aesthetic. A hint of red stone cladding evokes a connection to the architectural language of the existing campus. The design allows for ample natural light while cutting out glare. Adequate provisions are made to accommodate future utility requirements.

    Structural design of a state-of-the-art Research and Development center for scientific and affordable nutrition products. To accommodate services and optimize height, a flat slab system was designed. The building holds a Platinum rating by IGBC.

    Structural design of the Research & development lab for Torrent Pharmaceuticals. The lab is spread across a built-up area of approx. 16,000 m2 with 3 interconnected ground floor blocks and 3 upper floors. The structure is designed to provide large column free spaces, enable coordination and pre-determine routes for a number of utilities. Large cantilever beams support the load of 3 floors above. To replace cement, 33 % fly ash was used in the structural concrete.

    The Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences (ILBS) is a 155 bed, super-specialty hospital for liver and biliary disease spread over 84,000 m2. The complex features a helipad above RCC beams on bearings. A 32 m high atrium welcomes the visitor with a glass façade. Parking level slab is designed for fire tender movement. A bridge designed in steel is incorporated within a very limited space. All elements are made from M40 concrete. To reduce construction time, most of the columns and beams were designed of the same size.

    Punjab Institute of Medical Sciences is a hospital cum medical college located in Jalandhar. The 500 bed facility is spread over a campus of 55 acres. An attractive ramp structure gives expression to the building. The OPD area is a 21m x 21m open and column free space. Waffle slab enables flexibility in planning and puncturing for future.

    Design and construction of a 350 bed super specialty Hospital. The building has four operation theaters & a lab. A residential complex for doctors' was also included in the program. The hospital is designed to be environment friendly and to consume minimum resources. The design is conducive to the well being of patients and is conducive for other stakeholders - relatives, medical staff & administration. The central atrium allows ample daylight within the building and helps controlling spread of infection. The design was done to allow natural light and views to aid patient recovery. VMS overcame the challenge of constructing the building with double basements without affecting closely situated existing adjacent buildings.

    Design of a Museum and an Art Garden based on the life of Mahatma Gandhi at the iconic Mahatma Mandir. The venue is centre of the seminal Vibrant Gujarat Summit, responsible for the international interest and investment drives in the state of Gujarat. The museum is shaped like salt mound, symbolic of the dandi satyagrah. The cone shaped monument, stands at an extraordinary height of 45mt. An Art Garden with 79 installations each depicting one year from the Mahatma's life is under development. In the subsequent phase, a spectacular suspension bridge with an actual windmill on top generating electricity is being envisioned. Challenging, complex and probably the first in the world! The project was realized by a specialist team of consultants, artists, vendors and contractors working with VMS.

The plans maximize the potential of this prime location. The offices are designed to be open and friendly for visitors. Interior layouts encourage collaboration while subtly maintaining the required hierarchy.

    VMS provided end to end services for this project, including design of buildings, interiors, procurement and project management. The Offices cover approximately 11,00,000 square feet area. Spaces are designed to be productive, flexible and future proof. Large public and break-out spaces are incorporated intermittently throughout the floor plate facilitating collaboration and exchange. Interiors are designed with green materials. Proper ventilation and abundant natural light create an efficient and pleasant work environment.

    Administrative Building for the Co-operative society's Sugar Plant. The master plan was prepared after closely studying operational patterns and systems at the co-operative. The Building is designed to maximize use of natural light and resist heavy rainfall prevalent in the area. The complex also has provisions for recycling waste water.

    The Building houses the headquarters for Jindal Steel. VMS designed the structure. To accentuate the design, a large cascading cantilever was accommodated into the structural system.

    Income Tax Department

    Office complex for the Income Tax Department incorporating a library, conference area, seminar hall and other amenities. The building is designed to be friendly and approachable. Waiting lounges are provided on each floor. The glass façade induces a sense of transparency and creates a unique identity for the building. Such interventions provide a welcoming experience for the citizens & alter public perception by creating empathy and trust.

  • Five Star Hotel

    Zuri Hotel is a multi storied super luxury hotel. Built over an area of 22,500 m2, it has a two level basement and 13 floors including the ground floor. VMS designed the structure. The fourth floor divides the building into two parts. The floors below the fourth floor are large, open and column-free accommodating public areas, lounges and the swimming pool. Spaces above the fourth floor are designed with a different column layout to accommodate guest rooms. The structural system deploys transfer girders on the service floor to fulfill this essential requirement in the design.

    Design of officers' residences for the Income Tax Department. A clean contemporary style, adopted for the office evokes prudence and strength. Each built block includes a mix of apartment types reflecting the hierarchy of the officers. The facade is orientated to open towards a lake close to the site. To ease future contingency a larger parking facility has been accommodated despite area limitations.

    275 units with private balconies for staff accommodation. Facility for various amenities and community spaces were included. The apartment blocks are organized to maximize views, improve light and streamline ventilation. This was achieved by placing the service core in the centre of the floor plate hence avoiding the formation of backyards.

    While designing the interior of a chartered accountant’s office, we worked closely with modular furniture agencies to achieve the desired image for space and level of efficiency. The office premise has been visually opened towards the common areas viz. training space and conference. While use of low height partitions in the work place provide an open vision to the office, the glass partition at the peripheral cabins for the partners have been provided for a clean and open view, maintaining confidentiality and sound absorption requirements. All spaces have been defined amicably conferring with the design requirement.
